As a business owner, I constantly receive unsolicited offers from people who assume they understand my problems without ever learning about my business. A recent LinkedIn message perfectly illustrates this: after accepting a connection request, I was immediately pitched tax debt relief—despite being an Enrolled Agent who would lose my license if I had such debt. This approach, based on assumptions rather than research, shows a lack of professionalism. Effective sales—and real networking—require listening, understanding, and building trust. Business owners should reject such generic sales pitches outright. True value comes from relationships rooted in respect and knowledge, not cold scripts.
